Split into A and B teams for the 2020 Winter season, Fishers Baja A finished the regular season 5-0 while Fishers Baja B finished 1-4. At the season-ending tournament at The SportZone in Indianapolis February 17th, the A team placed 2nd and the B team placed 6th.
Winter Indoor League is used primarily to keep experienced players sharp and to develop less-experienced players in preparation for the official outdoor season in Spring. Short games of 6v6 are played indoors on smaller artificial turf fields.
Having compiled a perfect record and outscored opponents by an average of 13 points per game, Baja A entered the tournament with the #1 seed. After 3 pool games where they duplicated their average 13 point per game winning margin, Baja A entered the bracket in the #1 position after reseeding.
Wins came easily for Baja A in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds against Muncie Burris and Center Grove A respectively. But in the final, the long day and lack of sufficient substitute players finally caught up with them. Baja A was unable to muster their usual level of effort and precision and fell to a deeper and better-rested Brebeuf squad by a score of 12-7.
Baja B entered the tournament as the 7th seed. They finished pool play 1-2, with an exciting win on universe point against Muncie Burris, 8-7. After reseeding, Baja B entered the bracket in 6th place and that’s where they finished with a 13-3 loss to Warren Central, an 11-4 win against Center Grove B, and a 12-5 loss to Muncie Burris in the 5th place final.
Overall, both teams looked sharp and put in great efforts. Fishers Baja will be on the attack in the Spring!
